IBA Transmitters Visit January 1973
On the 31st January 1973 a group of students from Imperial College London visited the transmitter sites of the IBA. The students were all members of STOIC, the Student TV service from the college. At that time London still had the original 405 line black and white TV service as well as the relatively new (1969) colour 625 line service. Croydon was the 405 line transmitter and Crystal Palace was the 625 line transmitter, both of which were toured. You will hear some 'vision buzz' on audio.
This video is audio only.

James Burke: 6 November 1973
Переглядів 2945 місяців тому
This video is part of the interview with James Burke recorded at Imperial College London. Until now, the interview was only held on the Master (inaccessible) Ampex Type A format videotape. However, during a recent digitising of U-matic videotapes, I discovered the last section of the interview that had, at some point, been copied over to a U-matic videotape. So here it is (well, part of it anyw...
Legs & Co: June 1980

On 10 June 1980 we all went along to the BBC rehearsal studios in London to have a chat with Legs & Co. At the time they were dancing on the BBC's flagship music programme Top of the Pops, every Thursday evening. This is the footage, (un-cut) as shot by me on the day. David Ghani was asking the questions. This was recorded on Low Band U-Matic format tape.

A Directors Cut restoration version of the documentary celebrating 10 years of STOIC in February 1980. Taken from the original master tape this restored version now has the full segment of when STOIC went into colour in 1979.
Paul Eddington: 1983

In 1983 Ian Cameron interviewed actor Paul Eddington (1927-1995). Sadly, for some reason, this interview was never edited. I've found this short extract from the interview and this is all that now remains, with the original master-tape now missing! This was another recording that I've struggled with to correct the colour.

In November 1982 David Childs visited Pinewood Film Studios to speak with James Bond film producer Michael G Wilson. Please note that the colour on this tape is not perfect and that clips from films have been removed to overcome copyright strikes.
Diana Rigg - May 1978

In May 1978 Diana Rigg (1938-2020) opened the Imperial College Summer Fete. And afterwards she chatted briefly about her career. I've left in the small amount of preamble just before the interview actually started. It's sheer luck that this interview survives and I found a copy, tucked away on a compilation tape. The quality is poor (with lots of tape drop-outs) and of course in black and white...

Coinciding with the arrival of colour television on BBC1, ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’ made its début on Television on October 5, 1969. To celebrate that fact, here is the final interview I have with a Python member, Terry Gilliam. And I thought it fit to release it today. In 1985, the film Brazil had just been released and Terry Gilliam came to the TV Studio to chat about that and many other...
Malcolm McDowell 9 July 1975 (revised version)

In 1975 Malcolm McDowell had made the film Royal Flash. His most famous film to date was then Clockwork Orange, this as well as others, is discussed in the interview. In fact it's an interview that almost didn't happen. We had the programme scheduled for London-wide transmission over the ILEA Channel 7 cable network and then we got a phone call asking to cancel ! However we managed to get it ba...

"The Real World" was an excellent programme. The edition on three-dimensional television was particularly memorable
Yes I have a copy of that programme, somewhere or another...
Eight was by no means "too early" to be watching "Tomorrow's World". I was watching at the age of four
I'm not keen on the recent Worzel he will always be unique. Been watching recently on a sky channel.
Possibly the greatest movie made about seaman at war ❤ Nothing even come close to this very day
Best Dr Who actor of all... grew up on London watching and following his great acting.
Imagine that after a lifetime's worth of work in scientific research over many decades, he is most remembered for his cameo in a Thomas Dolby video lol
still pretty
SCIENCE!!
Good Heavens Miss Yakamoto! You're beautiful!
Correction to above, as it's "Miss Sakamoto"
R.i.P. 🌹🌹🌹GORDON JACKSON🌹🌹🌹 27.5.2024
Just to add that he died in 1990 not 2024 as this comment might make you think.
I'm sorry I love Terry but I can't watch any more of this.
Elegant and sophisticated man, talented actor. Facinating interview, if not frightening, a bit unsettling. He entertained us, romanced us, with his gifts and hard work. RIP, sir! And thank you. Your standards of excellence, both challenge and inspire us, and entertain us, still.
This film should’ve been delayed, they should’ve gone with the original vision of shooting it out in a town in America. Limitations ruined it because the actors strike.
one hell of a movie. loved it
I WISH DOCTOR MAGNUS PYKE COULD HAVE BEEN MY SCIENCE TEACHER ! ! !
HE WAS AN ECCENTRIC IN THE SENSE THAT HE WASN'T CIRCULAR ! ! !🤔
DOCTOR MAGNUS PYKE & PROFESSOR HEINZ WOLF WERE THE BEST ! ! !
Cyanocobalamin in your Brussels Sprouts! Simply DELIGHTFUL....Thank you, Dr Magnus Pyke. Rest in Peace.
I spent most this interview wondering how Frankenfurter would corrupt this young naive seeming interviewer. Tim Curry was a perfect gentleman during this interview or perhaps it was English sarcasm.
Thanks for sharing!
How'd you know he was going to die in 2020 in 2016??? Wow! This channel is witchcraft... But I do really like Geoffrey very much. He has (present being on film always) a grace and underestimated sense of comedy. Reminds me of older men when I was very young in my life - like my uncle. Educated men with wit and wisdom. Quiet and quick.
Ha ha, yes it's the Witchcraft of updating the text when something happens, like someone dying.

She was a marvelous 💎
Ms Rigg failed to mention the magnificent Theatre of Blood (1973), which was turned into a stage play and performed at the National theatre in 2005 with Diana's daughter Rachael Stirling following in her mother's footsteps playing Lionheart's daughter.
Fly......fly you fools!
????????
@@ColinGrimshaw He delivered the line much better than McKellen. Sir Michael is the definitive Gandalf.
Blimey!!
this is the best interview. 💙
Richard is a trooper his approach to relationships and love story with a quirky sensous flavour keeping us on our toes.❤
It must be the sound on this video. I have never heard his voice so high and thin. His voice was different in The Man with the Golden Gun and also the Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, both of which he mentions were released before this interview . Or maybe he was just doing a different voice for fun?
Didn't people speak with a sort of media voice back then?
Magnus was a shining star of my childhood in the 70s
I've watched a lot of these interviews with her and it seems just about everybody, I mean everybody comments on how great her voice is, how that is a huge part of her beauty and it's true. It is amazing that all over the world, everybody agrees how beautiful she is, or was. I for one will never forget going to the movies in 1976 as a 15 year old and being just blown away by her and this was the era of farrah fawcett who was the goddess of boys right? farrah was in this movie but she did not compare to Jenny, not even close. Also loved her in the eye of the needle
Thanks for sharing this brilliant footage of the group.
He hasn’t made any effort for this interview. He could have showered at the very least.
I was in the Service when this movie came out. Didn't watch it until many years later. The acting is very good, especially Prochnow. He gave his character quite a bit of depth. You could feel the sense of disappointment or elation coming from the Skipper. Funnily enough, I was in Submarine School when this movie was in the Cinema. This movie is right up there with any of the Submarine flicks.
Thanks for making this available to us. 69 now & grew up watching Terry Thomas. The geezer was & still is a one - off World Class source of entertainment. R.I.P. Terry Thomas. From me & my late wife Maureen.
Nice to hear Richard talk about Shocky without hating on it. Go easy on the interviewer, guys… anyhow, love that bit at 14:51. Thanks for posting this.
THis man is my spirit husband but no to the strangling
I miss Mike. Such a lovely humble person..& ALWAYS made me laugh..god rest him.❤

Gordon Jackso is a brilliant actor, I especially love his old WW2 movies. RIP Mr. Nice guy.
16:30 I wonder if there's a chance of decoding anything from the teletext dots that have crept into frame.
Good point
Hey! This guy killed Captain Kirk!
Gem of an upload, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Quatermass classic 😊.
He was in the 1955 film version of the BBC TV series
@ColinGrimshaw Thank you Colin much appreciated 👏 💐.
Patti was definitely my favourite dancer.

The real life Doc Brown
Very good interview, very factual, the interviewer allows dickie to open up and let him have all the attention. Spot on, this is how interviews should be ❤❤
This has grown into our culture… last year I asked Siri to set a timer for 10 minutes & she replied “I’m waiting with antici…..pation”, I looked at my wife & we burst out laughing. We both saw the movie several times in the ‘80’s in our late teens, great production.

Why bring that up here? He’s smoking in this clip, who cares? He lived the way he chose, we should all do the same.

yes but it was very normalised in the 70s
no they are just well educated
